No one should be forced to choose between earning a paycheck, and a healthy pregnancy or safe recovery from childbirth. We are among the countless number of women who faced that impossible choice and said no more.
We are so proud to have fought for the passage of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act alongside A Better Balance, as they launched the movement for this law over a decade ago and led the way to its passage ever since. And we are thrilled that the PWFA passed at the end of last year and took effect this summer!
Finally, pregnant and postpartum workers are afforded long overdue fairness, dignity, and equality under the law. But the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act will only truly work for workers in this country if there are strong regulations that make its vital protections fully available to those who are depending on them.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) proposed a set of regulations that will do just that, providing workers and their families with the support they need and creating important clarity on the full, broad scope of the law. Now, the EEOC needs to hear a strong showing of support for these regulations from workers and individuals who care about this issue.
