After years of fighting for policies that allow workers to care for themselves and their loved ones without sacrificing their economic stability, we are thrilled to see lawmakers committing to the needs of working families by prioritizing a bold, inclusive paid leave program that provides all workers with 12 weeks of paid leave to care for one’s own medical needs, care for a seriously ill loved one, to welcome a new child, or address the impact of military deployment.
But the fight isn’t over yet; in light of paid leave advancing in the House committee this month, we are taking part in a national Day of Action today alongside our fellow leaders and partners in the national Paid Leave For All campaign to call on Congress to pass paid family and medical leave for every worker without delay and highlighting the urgent need for such supportive policies. Every day via our free legal helpline, we hear from workers across the country, especially low wage workers and mothers of color, who are forced to make impossible choices as they struggle to protect their health, care for their children and other loved ones, and stay afloat economically. We’ve seen firsthand how paid leave programs in states like New York provide a critical lifeline for working families. Now, we need to extend these rights to every worker in the country.
We’re so close to making paid leave for all a reality, and we hope you’ll join us today in taking action by telling your representatives to pass paid leave for all, sharing your own paid leave story, and joining the conversation on social media.
