Urgent: The Senate Must Keep Paid Leave in Build Back Better

Families everywhere are depending on paid leave, and we must tell our Senators that we cannot emerge from the pandemic and economic crisis without ensuring all workers have time to care for themselves and their loved ones.

A Better Balance has long been fighting for paid family and medical leave for all workers in the U.S so that they can care for a new child, a seriously ill family member, or their own temporary disability. President Biden proposed a national paid leave program as part of his Build Back Better package that would make paid leave a reality for ALL workers regardless of where they live in this country.

Families everywhere are depending on paid leave, and we must tell our Senators that we cannot emerge from the pandemic and economic crisis without ensuring all workers have time to care for themselves and their loved ones.

Long since before the pandemic, it’s been the case that the many personal events that shape our lives—the birth of a new baby, a parent’s stroke, a cancer diagnosis, a child’s serious illness—too often lead to dire financial straits. Paid leave will provide economic security and a lifeline for women and working families who are struggling to stay afloat.

Today, only 20% of workers have paid family and medical leave and hardly any low-wage workers, disproportionately women of color, have any access to paid leave. Thanks to your support, we have succeeded in passing paid leave laws in nine states and D.C.—but every worker deserves this right, regardless of luck or location.

We cannot let this moment pass us by! Your Senators need to hear from you TODAY—they must continue to fight for working families and seize this once-in-a-generation opportunity for transformative change to our system of work and care.
