“Pregnant workers are still being treated like second class citizens in this country, facing rampant discrimination and profound economic hardship when, often, all they need are temporary workplace accommodations to stay healthy and on the job. There is a solution and one that is long overdue: the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which would provide pregnant workers with the explicit right to reasonable accommodations,” said ABB Co-Founder and Co-President Dina Bakst.

“This markup stands to bring us one step closer to making the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act a reality and we look forward to continuing to work closely with lawmakers in fighting for dignity and equality for pregnant workers,” she added.

Over the years, A Better Balance has spoken to hundreds of women in every corner of the country who faced the impossible choice between their job and a healthy pregnancy, suffering devastating consequences because the current federal law is failing pregnant workers. In the face of hardship, many of these women have become advocates and voices for change. Their powerful stories have inspired us to lead the call for the federal PWFA.
