Lynn Appelbaum

Lynn Appelbaum is the Deputy Executive Director of United Neighborhood Houses of New York (UNH), a policy and social change organization representing neighborhood settlement houses that reach 770,000 New Yorkers from all walks of life. UNH mobilizes our members and their communities to advocate for good public policies and promote strong organizations and practices that keep neighborhoods resilient and thriving for all New Yorkers.


Lynn participates in the leadership of the organization as well as oversees and informs UNH’s Member Services, delivering a wide range of programs that directly respond to the professional development and capacity building needs of UNH members, including peer learning and exchange, training, scholarships, grants to settlement houses, and special project work. Lynn focuses on content/knowledge building and skills-building for UNH and its member organizations. Immediately before joining United Neighborhood Houses, Lynn was an Executive Vice President at Educational Alliance, a settlement house that serves the Lower East Side and East Village. Lynn has been dedicated to strengthening settlement houses as a staff and Board member since 1994 having worked at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House in a variety of capacities and served on the Board of MMCC. She is a graduate of Haverford College and a proud recipient of the Haverford Award for Service to Humanity.
