Breastfeeding Advocacy

A Better Balance works with allied groups to educate nursing mothers about their legal rights through trainings of health care professionals, service providers, and workers themselves.

We fought for an amendment to the New York State Breastfeeding Mothers Bill of Rights to include information about nursing mothers’ workplace rights, so that women can make an informed decision about breastfeeding knowing they have the right to break time for expressing milk when they return to work.

Our letter about accommodations for nursing mothers taking the LSAT exam helped to convince the Law School Admission Council to change its existing policy; as of June 2012, nursing mothers taking the LSAT may request test-taking modifications, such as extended or additional breaks, for up to one year after giving birth.
