A Better Balance Community Advocate

Dreama James, Georgia

Dreama works for a fast food restaurant in Georgia. When her son had to return to virtual school in August 2020, she knew she wouldn’t have enough paid leave to cover his schooling. She was left stressed and scrambling to find child care after her boss told her that the restaurant “wasn’t a daycare,” and is still trying to claw her way back economically from losing income to take one day off per week to catch up with her son’s teachers.

She speaks out about her experience and shares her story with policymakers to advocate for comprehensive paid family and medical leave laws because she thinks it’s unfair to have to either leave your child at home or not be able to earn money to take care of them.
