Tonight, A Better Balance will be hosting a Victory Party in New York City to celebrate the passage of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act—two new federal laws that will extend critical new rights to pregnant, postpartum, and lactating workers in need of reasonable accommodations on the job nationwide. The celebration will take place on the Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel rooftop from 6:30–9pm.

After a decade-long fight to pass the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, we will gather alongside supporters, partners, and elected officials to reflect on the movement to make this groundbreaking civil rights legislation a reality on the beautiful Gansevoort Rooftop, where guests will enjoy food, drinks, and music. We are proudly honoring Congressman Jerry Nadler, a legislative champion of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, the Honorable Carolyn Maloney, a champion of the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act, and ABB Community Advocate Armanda Legros, who has spoken out for years about her experience with pregnancy discrimination to call for the PWFA.

“The protections provided by the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and PUMP Act will make a difference in the lives of millions of working women and families across the country and ensure that nobody is forced to choose between their economic security and a healthy pregnancy, safe recovery from childbirth, or ability to pump at work.” said A Better Balance Co-Founder and Co-President Dina Bakst. “We look forward to celebrating this historic victory alongside the leaders, partners, advocates and supporters who fought tirelessly to make these critical new protections a right for moms and moms-to-be nationwide.”

“It has never been more clear how much of an impact policies like protections for pregnant and lactating workers, paid sick leave, paid family and medical leave, and accessible childcare can make in working families’ lives,” said A Better Balance Co-Founder and Co-President Sherry Leiwant. “We remain committed to fighting for the supports working families need and deserve as we reflect on these triumphant new federal victories for workers caring for themselves and their loved ones.”

A Better Balance recently released a robust new report, “Winning the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act,” documenting the 10-year history and movement behind the passage of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, highlighting how the success story can serve as a roadmap for other work-family campaigns. We also launched a complete Know Your Rights guide with an explainer about the law for workers, sample letters they can send to their boss, and links to resources for additional support, available in English and in Spanish.

As we celebrate these two exciting new laws, we look forward to continuing to expand our public education and enforcement efforts to ensure workers in every corner of the country can meaningfully access these new rights.
