Politics Trump the People Again in Milwaukee, but the Fight Goes On. The Milwaukee paid sick days law, approved by 69% of voters in 2008, was upheld by the Wisconsin Court of Appeals on March 24, 2011. Just weeks later, on May 5th, Governor Walker signed into law a bill seeking to undermine local authority statewide and nullfiy the Milwaukee law. On July 28th, Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge Cooper refused to lift the injunction on the Milwaukee law despite orders from the Court of Appeals, saying his hands were tied by the new state law.
